Depression treatment at Quest Wellness Center is structured outpatient care for depressive disorders, delivered through partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient programs. We combine evidence-based therapies like CBT with medication management by a psychiatrist, and we offer TMS when depression has not responded to therapy and medication. Care is available in person or online. We work with most PPO plans.
Depression is a medical condition, not a passing mood, in which persistent low mood and loss of interest interfere with how a person feels, thinks, and functions. Clinical depression, often called major depressive disorder, involves symptoms that last most of the day, nearly every day, for at least two weeks, and it is driven by changes in brain chemistry, genetics, and life circumstances rather than by weakness or choice. It is one of the most common mental health conditions and also one of the most treatable, with most people improving meaningfully through therapy, medication, or a combination. Depression rarely lifts on its own when it has become persistent, which is why professional treatment makes such a difference. Recognizing depression as a treatable medical condition is the first step toward recovery.
Depression takes several forms, and effective treatment depends on recognizing which one a person has. Quest treats the range of depressive disorders in adults, including:
Many people experience depression alongside anxiety, substance use, or trauma, and Quest builds a plan that treats the full picture rather than a single label.
Depression needs professional treatment when its symptoms persist for weeks and interfere with work, relationships, or daily functioning. Common symptoms include persistent sadness or emptiness, loss of interest in things you used to enjoy, fatigue, changes in sleep and appetite, difficulty concentrating, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, and physical aches without a clear cause. Depression also raises the risk of thoughts of death or suicide, which is the clearest sign that immediate professional help is needed. If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, you are not alone and help is available right now: call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7, or call 911 in an emergency. When low mood, loss of interest, or hopelessness have lasted more than two weeks, or whenever thoughts of suicide are present, structured treatment can change the course of the illness, and Quest treats depression alongside the anxiety, trauma, and substance use that so often accompany it.
Quest treats depression through a structured outpatient continuum, matching the intensity of care to how much depression is affecting daily life. Partial Hospitalization (PHP) is the most intensive level, with several hours of treatment on most weekdays, suited to people whose depression is severe enough to disrupt daily functioning or who need close support. Intensive Outpatient (IOP) steps down with fewer weekly hours while keeping strong clinical support. Outpatient (OP) is the lightest level, for clients stabilizing and maintaining progress. This structure is the difference between Quest and a single weekly therapy hour: when depression is severe or has not responded to weekly care, a structured program provides more support, faster, and combines therapy with medication management and, when needed, TMS in one coordinated plan. Most clients step down through the levels as they improve, and every level is available in person or through secure telehealth.
Medication is an effective part of treatment for many people with depression, and Quest’s medication management is led by a board-certified psychiatrist. Antidepressants can correct the brain-chemistry changes that drive depression and often make therapy more effective, and our prescriber works with you to find the right medication with the fewest side effects, adjusting as needed since the first option does not always fit. Medication is paired with therapy rather than used on its own, because the combination produces better, more durable results than either alone for moderate to severe depression. For clients who prefer to start without medication, treatment can begin with therapy and revisit the question later. The decision is made together, based on your symptoms, history, and preferences.
When depression has not improved after therapy and one or more medications, that is treatment-resistant depression, and it has its own effective options. Treatment-resistant depression is common, affecting a significant share of people with major depression, and it does not mean treatment has failed or that nothing will work. Quest offers transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TMS, a non-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate the areas of the brain involved in mood regulation, with no anesthesia and no systemic medication side effects. TMS is delivered in outpatient sessions and is a strong option for people who have not responded to antidepressants or who cannot tolerate their side effects. Quest combines TMS with ongoing therapy and medication management in one coordinated plan, so depression that has resisted other treatment still has a clear path forward. Our team helps determine whether TMS is the right next step based on your history.
Depression rarely arrives alone, so Quest treats it alongside the conditions that often accompany it. Anxiety and depression frequently occur together, and many people use alcohol or other substances to manage low mood, which creates a cycle that worsens both. Trauma, PTSD, and chronic stress also commonly underlie depression. As a dual-diagnosis provider, Quest treats depression and any co-occurring mental health or substance use condition in one coordinated plan rather than addressing them separately. Treating the depression while leaving the anxiety or substance use untreated is a common reason recovery does not hold, which is why integrated care is central to how Quest works. Lasting relief from depression usually means addressing everything feeding it.
Quest Wellness Center works with most PPO insurance plans, including Aetna, Anthem, and Carelon, and we verify your benefits before you start. We are an out-of-network provider for most plans, so your coverage and out-of-pocket cost depend on your plan’s out-of-network benefits, deductible, and coinsurance. Most commercial plans cover outpatient mental health treatment, including PHP and IOP for depression, though the details vary by plan, and TMS coverage depends on your plan and meeting medical-necessity criteria. To verify, the form on this page asks for your insurance provider and member ID, and our admissions team explains what to expect in plain terms, with no obligation. Quest’s depression treatment is built for adults whose depression is disrupting daily life but who do not need round-the-clock hospitalization. You can keep up with work, school, or family while attending a structured program, and you return home at the end of each treatment day. People typically start here when weekly therapy has not been enough, when low mood and loss of interest have lasted weeks or months, when depression has not responded to medication, or when it is showing up alongside anxiety, trauma, or substance use. The right level, from PHP down to outpatient, is set during an assessment so the support matches how much depression is affecting you. If symptoms are severe enough that staying safe is the immediate concern, our team helps arrange the right level of care and connects you with crisis support.
The most effective treatment for moderate to severe depression combines therapy, usually CBT, with medication managed by a psychiatrist. For depression that has not responded, TMS is an effective option. Quest delivers these together through structured outpatient care.
Quest treats major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia), depression with anxiety, seasonal depression, depression tied to loss or trauma, and treatment-resistant depression, including cases that occur alongside substance use.
Not always. Medication helps many people, and Quest’s psychiatrist can prescribe and manage it when appropriate, always paired with therapy. For clients who prefer to start without it, treatment can begin with therapy and revisit medication later.
Treatment-resistant depression is depression that has not improved after therapy and one or more medications. It is common and treatable. Quest offers TMS, a non-invasive, FDA-cleared option, alongside continued therapy and medication management.
TMS, or transcranial magnetic stimulation, is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate mood-related areas of the brain, without anesthesia or medication side effects. It helps people whose depression has not responded to antidepressants, and Quest delivers it in outpatient sessions.
When depression disrupts work, sleep, relationships, or daily functioning, has lasted weeks, or involves thoughts of suicide, a structured program like PHP or IOP provides more support than weekly therapy. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 or call 911.
Yes. Quest is a dual-diagnosis provider and treats depression alongside anxiety, trauma, and substance use in one coordinated plan, which improves the odds of lasting relief.

Treatment for depression at Quest is built on the therapies with the strongest evidence for depressive disorders, matched to each client. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most established, helping you identify and change the thought patterns and behaviors that sustain depression. Behavioral activation, often part of CBT, rebuilds engagement with meaningful activity, which directly counters the withdrawal and inactivity depression creates. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) builds skills for tolerating distress and regulating intense emotion, useful when depression comes with strong emotional swings or self-harm urges. Interpersonal and group therapy address the relationships and isolation that both feed and result from depression. Most clients receive a combination across individual and group sessions, since the right mix depends on the type of depression and what drives it.
