Quest Wellness Center anchors dual diagnosis care for Los Angeles from a central, Joint Commission accredited North Hollywood site, worked in person by those close enough and on secure video by everyone else. The program treats a mental health condition and a co-occurring substance use disorder in one plan, across morning, afternoon, and evening tracks through PHP, IOP, and outpatient care.
Los Angeles is too big for one commute to define, and its treatment market is just as fragmented, which is exactly the problem for a dual diagnosis. Care gets split across providers who never compare notes: substance use in one place, the depression or anxiety underneath it somewhere else. The two are treated together on one plan at Quest because pulling only one loose lets the other undo the progress.
The pattern shows up most often as substance use grown alongside depression, an anxiety disorder, PTSD, bipolar disorder, or ADHD. Treat one and leave the other, and the untreated side pulls the progress back, over and over. The approach that lasts works both at the same time, on one plan, which is the recognized standard for co-occurring disorders and the reason it beats treating the two in sequence.
The term covers a specific and common situation: a psychiatric condition and a substance use disorder active in the same person, each aggravating the other. In the cases Quest sees from across Los Angeles, the psychiatric half is most often depression or an anxiety disorder, with trauma, bipolar illness, and ADHD close behind, and the substance can be anything from nightly drinking to stimulants or pills. What earns it a single name is the circuit between the two conditions: the symptoms drive the use, the use deepens the symptoms, and any treatment that takes on only half of that circuit tends to watch its results unwind.
Treatment also has to survive a Los Angeles calendar, which is its own clinical problem. A program that assumes a short commute and a nine-to-five collapses against a service job in Koreatown, a set call in Culver City, or ninety minutes of the 405.
Quest runs its tracks in the morning, afternoon, and evening precisely so the program can bend around shift work and family obligations, and the statewide telehealth option removes the freeway from the equation altogether. Clients mix formats week to week as the calendar demands, because the version of care that survives an LA week is the one that actually finishes.
Here is where the single-team model pays off most directly. Rather than the outside prescriber an LA client would otherwise add to their pile of disconnected providers, the psychiatrist at Quest sits on the treatment team and prescribes from inside the same plan. That placement is the whole point: someone tracking the substance use chooses medication that works with recovery instead of against it. A mood stabilizer, an antidepressant, or ADHD medication can bring the psychiatric symptoms down far enough that the substance use work becomes possible, and where the addiction itself has an approved medication, it belongs in the same plan too. Prescribing and therapy move together, never apart.
Different methods do different jobs against a dual diagnosis, and Quest matches them to the pair in front of it. For the thought loops that feed both a low mood and the drinking that answers it, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy does the work. For emotions that outrun a person and used to end in using, Dialectical Behavior Therapy builds the tolerance to sit with them. Motivational Interviewing is for the ambivalence that comes early, and EMDR and trauma-focused work are for the cases where trauma is the thing underneath the substance use. Most of the clinical week runs in topic-based groups, with individual sessions to take up privately whatever the groups open.
Beyond those approaches, the program may include ACT, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and coordinated TMS care through Breakthrough TMS when appropriate. Every group at Quest is led by a master’s-level therapist, supervised by licensed clinicians.
Quest runs three outpatient levels, and where a client from Los Angeles starts depends on how much the two conditions are disrupting daily life.
PHP | IOP | OP | |
Weekly load | Several hours, most weekdays | Fewer hours across the week | Lightest, spaced sessions |
Fits | Needing daily structure to stabilize | Holding a job through treatment | Maintaining gains |
Tracks | Daytime | Morning, afternoon, evening | Flexible |
Format | In-person or telehealth | In-person or telehealth | In-person or telehealth |
Partial Hospitalization is the most intensive, for people who need daily structure to steady both conditions. The intensive outpatient program in Los Angeles steps down to fewer weekly hours across the three tracks while allowing clients to maintain more of their regular work, school, or family schedule. Outpatient maintains progress once things settle. The same team carries you across all three, and most clients step down through them as they stabilize.
The tell that a weekly hour has stopped working is cumulative rather than sudden. Depression that recedes only while using and returns the moment it stops, an appointment that never survives the week intact, a person close enough to notice who stops hedging, all of it reads as noise one piece at a time and as a clear signal together, the point at which several structured days a week replace the single hour.
The intake assessment settles which level, in confidence and at no cost.
Quest Wellness Center accepts most commercial PPO plans with out-of-network benefits, and we verify your coverage before treatment begins. Use the Verify Insurance module on this page and we will confirm your benefits, usually within about fifteen minutes.
The facility is at 10736 Burbank Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601, central to much of Los Angeles and reachable off the 101, 134, or 170, and the Get Directions link below opens the route from where you are. For anyone across the basin who would rather not drive, the same program runs by telehealth statewide.
Clients also access the same coordinated care from nearby communities, including North Hollywood, Burbank, Glendale, and Encino. Quest also serves clients seeking dual diagnosis treatment in Toluca Lake, dual diagnosis care in Studio City, dual diagnosis treatment in Sherman Oaks, dual diagnosis treatment in Valley Glen, and dual diagnosis care for Valley Village.
Additional location-specific care is available for Pasadena, the Hollywood Hills, West Hollywood, Woodland Hills, Van Nuys, and Sun Valley. Each location page explains how dual diagnosis treatment works for clients coming from that part of the Los Angeles area.
If medical stabilization is needed first, it comes before this level of care. Quest does not run inpatient detox, so the team coordinates it with Quest 2 Recovery, our own program, and brings you into integrated care afterward.

Quest keeps the psychiatric care and the substance use treatment under one team on a single plan, instead of the scattered providers common across LA. The therapy and medication are coordinated together, which is usually what was missing.
Yes. Many LA clients do most sessions by video and come to North Hollywood occasionally, or the reverse. The plan and team stay the same across both.
Most Los Angeles clients run several weeks through PHP or IOP and step down as they stabilize, with telehealth keeping the schedule workable across the county.
Length is set by clinical need rather than a fixed number of days.
Los Angeles clients can receive integrated treatment for depression, anxiety, PTSD and complex trauma, bipolar disorder, or ADHD alongside alcohol or drug use. The psychiatric and substance use conditions are assessed together and addressed within the same treatment plan.
